Parents and Citizens
The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)
The P&C at Toowoomba North plays a vital role in the school. Functions of the P&C include:
• fostering general community interest in educational matters;
• facilitating closer co-operation between parents, staff and students;
• providing advice and recommendations to the Principal on issues and concerns in respect of students and the general operation and management of the School; and
• providing financial or other resources or services for the benefit of students.
Parents and friends of Toowoomba North State School students are invited and encouraged to join our P&C.
Parent participation
At Toowoomba North School we encourage parent participation in many levels of school life, including our real business of providing learning programs for children. It has long been recognized that parent involvement benefits children in terms of the feelings of belonging and security such involvement can bring.
To ensure there is no doubt about whether or not volunteers were in attendance in school at any particular time, it is essential that a Register of Attendance is maintained. This register will be kept in the school office to ensure that the school has an accurate record of when all volunteers are in attendance. This means that all volunteers who call in to help in classrooms, tuckshop, meetings etc must sign the book at the office.
Other ways of participating include attending school functions such as assemblies and sport carnivals and participating in school based discussions and surveys.
Tuckshop
We hope your child will enjoy our Tuckshop.
The P&C Association provides a Tuckshop service on Wednesdays for the main lunch period (11.00am to 11.45am) and on Fridays for an over the counter service only. We aim to provide interesting, fun and wholesome food for students and staff, and at the same time, raise funds by operating at a profit. The ‘Wednesday Whopper’ menu is advertised in the school newsletter each fortnight. Our Tuckshop Convenor is appointed by the P&C and manages the Tuckshop. She is assisted by parent volunteers. We encourage parents to support the Tuckshop by both utilising the service, and also assisting in the Tuckshop as volunteers. Volunteer help enables the Tuckshop to operate at a profit. These profits are then directed to the school and benefit your child.
Uniforms
The official school colours are gold and royal blue. The staff and P&C Association of Toowoomba North State School strongly support the wearing of school uniforms by students. Parents are asked to support this. Students neatly attired in school uniform are a source of pride for themselves, the school, their families and the community.
Uniform guidelines incorporate SunSmart requirements and Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
Therefore the following items are considered unacceptable:
• open sandals and thongs
• hoop style earrings
• stud earrings when swimming
